What Does Our Live Engine Testing Involve?
Unlike carburetors that are simply rebuilt and shipped, our carburetors undergo live engine testing to verify proper operation and make critical adjustments before they leave our shop.
Our goal is simple: to provide a carburetor that arrives properly adjusted, performs reliably, and requires minimal additional setup.
1. Curb Idle RPM Pre-Set
Proper curb idle adjustment is essential for smooth engine operation.
If the idle speed is set too low, the engine may run roughly or stall. If it is set too high, the engine may race, waste fuel, or experience drivability issues.
During live engine testing, we carefully adjust the curb idle speed to establish a smooth, stable baseline.
The benefit: Your carburetor arrives with its idle speed pre-set, helping simplify installation and minimize unnecessary adjustments.
2. Fast Idle Pre-Set
The fast idle system plays an important role during cold engine starts.
When you first start a cold engine, the carburetor temporarily increases engine speed to help maintain smooth operation while the engine warms up. As the choke opens and the engine reaches operating temperature, the fast idle system should allow the engine to return to its normal idle speed.
An improperly adjusted fast idle system can cause excessive engine speed, rough cold starts, or an engine that remains at high idle longer than necessary.
During live engine testing, we inspect and adjust the choke and fast idle mechanisms to verify that they operate properly.
The benefit: Improved cold-start performance, proper choke operation, and a smoother transition to normal idle.
3. Idle Mixture Screws Pre-Set
A properly adjusted air-fuel mixture is essential for engine performance, fuel efficiency, and smooth operation.
An incorrect idle mixture can contribute to rough idling, excessive fuel consumption, hesitation, and poor drivability.
During live engine testing, we carefully adjust the idle mixture screws to establish a clean, smooth, and efficient idle.
The benefit: Your carburetor arrives with its idle mixture pre-set to provide a strong starting point for optimal engine performance.
